Paper Part Driving Licence

Paper part driving licence abolished from today

Paper Part Driving Licence

From today, the paper counterpart driving licence will be abolished in the UK. It will be replaced by an online service where you can view information such as a driver’s penalty points.

Drivers will be able to use the online service to generate a code to show a third party their information. This could be to show employers or car hire companies what vehicles you can drive, any disqualifications or penalty points, your name and the last eight digits of your driving licence number.

After concerns about complications holidaymakers may face when hiring a car abroad, the DVLA have advised drivers to check with car hire companies beforehand which documents they require. Whilst the DVLA says you don’t need to keep your paper counterpart, the AA have advised to keep it as a safety measure.

You can visit to use the online service.
